Take pains with these things; be absorbed in them, so that your progress will be evident to all.

1 Timothy 4:15

Resources

  • Abe Books

If you are anything like me, you like to have physical copies of the materials you work with. There is something that just feels right about holding books and resources in your own hand as opposed to viewing them all on a screen. Unfortunately, it can get expensive to buy physical copies of every book you want to read. Fortunately, Abe Books is here! I have purchased several used books from them for research, and each has arrived within just a couple of weeks, in good condition, and at a fraction of the cost they would have come brand new. If you want to expand your library and are on a budget like me, you might consider starting here.

  • Bible Thinker

Bible Thinker is a ministry that, like the name implies, is dedicated to helping you think biblically about everything. It is run by a small crew, founded by Mike Winger, and has hundreds of hours of video content in the form of verse-by-verse scripture studies, apologetics tools, topical analyses, and interviews that discuss difficult but prescient issues in the world today. There is also a weekly Q&A that takes place most Fridays at 3:00 PM where Mike responds to various questions by going to the text of scripture and trying to address things through a biblical framework. The channel on YouTube is simply titled, “Mike Winger.”

  • Blessed Hope Chapel

In addition to the work they do at Good Fight Ministries, Pastor Joe and Co. also post their weekly sermons and Bible studies here on the church site, which also links to the previously mentioned podcasts on Spotify and Apple Music. I have reached out to them several times regarding some of their materials and they have always been very kind and joyful to work with and talk to. I find their teachings to be consistently edifying and encouraging, pushing me to acknowledge my weaknesses in the faith and address them rather than put a band aid over them.

  • Blue Letter Bible

Blue Letter Bible (BLB) is a great tool to use for a wide variety of study styles. This site has a ton of Bible translations available, in addition to commentaries and language tools if you’re interested in studying the individual words that make up a passage. If you don’t have a Bible or have one and can’t afford more in different translations, this is a very useful, FREE resource that can help jumpstart your study. I personally like the New American Standard Bible 1995 (NASB 1995), English Standard Version (ESV), Revised Standard Version (RSV), and the good old King James Bible (KJV), but I also recommend the Tree of Life Version (TLV) and New International Version (NIV).

  • Equipping The Persecuted

Equipping The Persecuted is an organization that focuses on helping to provide resources like food, shelter, clothing, and basic safety to Christian brothers and sisters in Nigeria. Every day, men, women, and children are killed by Muslim extremists for proclaiming the Good News and clinging to the love of the Lord Jesus Christ; Judd Saul and his team are working to help change that and prevent the slaughter of as many believers as they can, wherever they can. If you are looking for a way to love our brothers and sisters abroad, HeartCry Missionary Society and Equipping the Persecuted are great places to start.

  • Good Fight Ministries

Good Fight Ministries is an organization founded by Pastor Joe Schimmel in 1987 dedicated to helping believers discern the signs of the times. Today, they have resources dedicated toward that end on a wide variety of subjects ranging from celebrity news, the sexual revolution, film, and music. They have multiple podcasts, including the 5.11 News with Chad Davidson and the Good Fight Radio Show with Chad and Pastor Joe. The expose that started it all was “They Sold Their Souls for Rock and Roll,” a deep dive into the roots of the modern music industry, and you can find this and much of their other content for free on their website and YouTube channel.

  • Heart Cry Mission Society

This is, as the name implies, a missionary organization by which you can find books, specific causes to include in your prayers, or a place to give and bless the body of Christ. They do not solicit for donations and do not make announcements regarding their needs; they apply the George Meuller rules of “trust in God to provide,” like we all should. This ministry was founded by Paul Washer in 1988 with a mind to support and help better establish indigenous missionaries around the world.

  • Scroll Reader

This site shares a growing catalog of historical and contemporary Christian audio books geared toward assisting the believer on his or her walk. I have found several in particular that I recommend for anyone with a story similar to mine, which are: God Has No Pleasure in the Death of the Wicked by Ichabod Spencer, The Mission of Sorrow: The Divine Purpose of Grief by Gardiner Spring, A Guide for the Doubting Soul: Finding Assurrance by Robert Phillips, and Kanamori’s Life Story: How the Higher Criticism Wrecked a Japanese Christian’s Faith; And How He Came Back. The books cataloged here vary widely from testimonies to how-to-guides, collections of sermons, and fictional stories a la The Pilgrim’s Progress. Whatever your stage of faith, I am sure there is something here for you.
